Practice Planning lets you build a complete, timed practice session in minutes. The practice assistant drafts a plan for you — drawing on a drill library with rink diagrams and the takeaways from your recent game reports — and you fine-tune it from there. Print a clean sheet for the bench, run it live from your phone, or share it with your staff.
Note: The free Starter plan includes 3 practice plans and 10 of your own custom drills, so you can run the full workflow. Solo and Pro unlock unlimited practice plans and drills. Sharing a plan with your team or staff is available on Pro.
Creating a New Practice Plan
- Click Plan a Practice from your home screen, or open Practice Plans in the sidebar.
- Click + New Plan.
- Set the basics — date, ice time available, number of skaters, and what you want the practice to accomplish.
You can save a group profile for a team, a player, or a skills cohort. Its defaults (typical duration, ice usage, age level) fill in automatically the next time you plan for that group.
Drafting with the Practice Assistant
- Open the Practice Assistant panel.
- Describe the session in your own words — for example, “60 minutes, full ice, 14 skaters, focus on breakouts.”
- The assistant builds a complete, timed plan in a live preview, pulling from your drill library and the takeaways from your recent game reports.
- Keep what fits and swap what doesn’t. Ask for changes in plain English: “add a small-area game at the end” or “shorten the warmup to 10 minutes.”
Building the Plan by Hand
You can add and arrange items yourself at any time:
- Drills — pull from the drill library (see below).
- Custom items — anything that isn’t a saved drill.
- Notes — reminders for yourself or the staff.
- Sections — group the practice into phases.
- Stations — group drills into a rotation, each with its own timing, for station-based ice.
Give every item a duration. The running total updates as you go, so your plan stays inside your ice time. Drag items to reorder them.
The Drill Library
Open Drills in the sidebar to browse the library:
- Community drills come with rink diagrams, coaching points, and coach ratings. Give a thumbs-up to the ones worth running again.
- Your own drills — build a drill once and reuse it across every plan. Add a category, skills, age level, ice usage, equipment, coaching points, a rink diagram, and an optional video.
Add any drill to the current plan with one click.
Diagrams
Each drill and plan item gets the same rink canvas as Playbooks — add players, pucks, lines, and arrows so the drill is easy to see, not just read.
Print & Run
- Print a clean, one-page sheet for the clipboard.
- Run Practice opens a live view on your phone so you can move through the plan block by block at the rink, timing and all.
Sharing Practice Plans
Note: Sharing requires a Pro tier subscription.
Click Share on a plan to give access to individual coaches or your whole team. They see a clean, read-only view of the session, so the entire bench shows up knowing the flow.
